My Story
In 1996 I was diagnosed with major depression. For the next three years I struggled to find answers while living in a deep dark pit. I was plagued with negativity. I had zero motivation, constant crying, and lack of concentration. I felt alone, helpless, hopeless and had no desire to be with or talk to others. I lost joy. I saw countless counselors and psychiatrists hoping to find relief. Finally, after three long years I found the right mental health providers and medications that helped me. It was trial and error with my medication. But it wasn't until I found the right care and support when things finally began to fall into place. I surrendered my illness to God and let Him lead me on the path of recovery to the resources that helped me find and maintain stability. I want to encourage you to get help and utilize the tools I provide on my website and my book which covers my personal story, stories of others who struggled with different types of depression, endless information, tools and resources titled, Standing On Firm Ground.
Major depression is a serious illness. Sure I learned how to pretend things were ok on the outside, but no one can just snap out of depression.
If you suffer from depression, please seek medical attention. Just like diabetes, depression needs to be treated medically by a licensed therapist and if needed, a psychiatrist.
After years of dealing with my illness, I learned how to manage depression with therapy, medication, a support network and tools that help me maintain stability. Having faith in God had everything to do with my healing. If you suffer, please get help.
If you are looking for a therapist or psychiatrist in your area, you might find the Psychology Today a helpful resource.
